Welcome to Dare Valley Country Park
The Valleys of South Wales are a unique, fascinating area rich in landscape, history and heritage. The central Valleys of Rhondda, Cynon and Taff link together to join some of the most famous names in Wales such as Pontypridd, Merthyr Tydfil, Treorchy and Aberdare.
Connecting the scenic routes
Follow the Craig Y Llyn - Rhondda Fawr route to Treherbert. From there follow the valley down through Treorchy to Ystrad and then up the steep hill to Penrhys. At the top of the hill is a statue to our Lady of Penrhys which marks the spot of an important Catholic pilgrimage site. From here you will get wonderful views down the Rhondda Valleys towards Pontypridd. From Penrhys head down into Stanleytown and head up the valley to Ferndale and then Maerdy. From Maerdy follow the A4233 over the mountain and down into Aberdare. Turn left for Dare Valley Country Park.
Aberdare to Maerdy
Leave Dare Valley Country Park and go through Highland Place until you reach Monk Street. At Monk Street turn right and follow the Maerdy Road A4233 over the Mountain taking in some of the spectacular views of Aberdare, the Cynon Valley and the Rhondda on the way.
Craig Y Llyn - Rhondda Fawr
From the A454 near Hirwaun take the turn onto A4061 signposted Treherbert. Follow the road up the mountain. At the top there is a parking area on your right which offers spectacular view of Craig-y-Llyn Reservoir and the Neath Valley. Continue onwards for approximately a mile and there is a parking area on your left, marked 'Hendre Mynydd' which offers spectacular views down the Rhondda. Continue down this road past Penpych into Ty Newydd, Treherbert and the Rhondda.
